Thorntown, July 26 - Elwood Woody, 86, life long Montgomery County farmer living east of Darlington, died Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Schwinn Nursing home here. He had been seriouly ill for two months. Born in North Carolina, Dec 26, 1859, he was the son of Nathan and Ruth Hadley Woody. He married Ida Flaningan in 1887. She preceded him in death in 1941. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church at Darlington and was a birthright Quaker. Surviving are two sons, Ralph and Leonard, both of Thorntown and a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Jarrell, of near Frankfort. A son, Ray, six brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Russell & Hitch Funeral Home here, Rev. A.L. Vermillion of Jamestown, was in charge and burial was in charge and burial was in St. James Lutheran cemetery near Darlington. -- thanks to Norman Tribbett for this one - greatly appreciated, NT :)
